When you are choosing a wedding caterer for your engagement party, rehearsal dinner, or wedding reception, there are many obvious questions you will ask, such as what it will cost, what menus are offered, and what service styles are available. However, there are a few less-obvious questions that you should also be asking when you talk to the caterers you are considering.
- Can you accommodate custom menu requests? It is sad to rule out a wedding caterer just because you don’t see menu options that you are looking for. At the very least, if you love everything else about the wedding caterer, go ahead and ask if they can accommodate custom requests. You might be pleasantly surprised that they’re more than happy to do so!
- Where does the food come from? It might surprise you that not all wedding catering companies actually prepare the food they are serving. Some rely on prepackaged items from distribution centers. Ideally, you want a wedding caterer that uses fresh, local ingredients whenever possible and crafts all their meals from scratch themselves. If they have a real passion for cooking, it will show in the menu and be a hit with your guests.
- Do you focus on food presentation as well as flavor? Nobody wants to have their guests tell them that the food looked unpresentable and unappealing. You don’t just want to sample dishes they prepare, but have them prepared in the same presentation they would use for your wedding day.
- What is included in your fees? You don’t want a big surprise on your wedding day, so make sure you have a comprehensive quote for everything – setup, food, clean-up, and service.
